All the Pieces of the Puzzle

Have you ever tried putting together a puzzle and realised halfway through that you don’t have all the pieces?

If you haven’t, I can assure you that it is the single most frustrating moment of your life. It will lead you on a whirlwind adventure around your house, looking for the missing pieces, finding a few here and there, and maybe even discovering a few lost treasures along the way. Eventually all the pieces of your marvelous puzzle are in place and it’s spectacular. You gaze upon your hard work with a sense of pride ready to show those around you your completed masterpiece.

We humans are complex beings. We have crazily diverse personalities that are made up of bits of every experience and adventure, great love and loss, not forgetting those cringe worthy moments, all complimented by our inherited genetics. Each of these are pieced together in chaotic harmony, a lot like a puzzle.

Finding all these pieces is what is commonly known as “finding yourself”, but what does that even mean? Let me break it down for you. Basically it means knowing who you are, what you stand for, your strengths, weaknesses and limits. Knowing all these things about yourself and being conscious of them is what results in the completion of the spectacular masterpiece which is ourselves.

You can’t very well frame an unfinished puzzle, putting it out there for people to adore without it being complete. It would result in people trying to fill in those gaps for you, forcing in pieces that don’t belong there, causing damage and destruction, pain and hurt.

Work on your puzzle by yourself, build it up using your own strength. That’s what creates that sense of accomplishment once it’s done, it is you and it is yours. Accept support from those around you, let them help you because you aren’t alone in this but you’ve got to do the work for yourself.

Go out there and find your pieces. Try different things, realise they don’t fit, then move on. Search high and low because you may find a piece in the most unlikely of places. It may take a lifetime but that’s what you’ve got to give because you, fellow earth dweller, are a work of art worth finishing.

Till next time…

Be wild, weird and wonderful.
